Convert LandXML to IFC 4.3 alignments online — free

To convert a LandXML alignment to IFC 4.3, open IFCraft, drop in the .xml file and export. The horizontal and vertical design becomes a complete IfcAlignment — both the business layout (segments with parameters) and the geometric representation — ready for IFC 4.3 viewers and checkers. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How to convert LandXML to IFC step by step

  1. Export LandXML from your road/rail design software (Civil 3D, OpenRoads, RoadPAC…): horizontal alignment + vertical profile.
  2. Open IFCraft, create a project with the IFC4x3 ADD2 schema and drop in the .xml file.
  3. Check the axis. IFCraft builds a segment model of the alignment (lines, arcs, clothoids; gradients and parabolic curves) and shows its stationing.
  4. Optionally add elements. Combine with a DWG/DXF/3DM file and position products along the axis by station and offset (linear placement), or add stationing referents.
  5. Export. The IFC contains IfcAlignment with nested horizontal/vertical layouts, terminator segments and — where used — IfcLinearPlacement.

FAQ

Does it work with Civil 3D and OpenRoads alignments?

Yes. Any LandXML export works the same way — converting a Civil 3D alignment to IFC or an OpenRoads alignment to IFC is the same drop-and-export flow. Lines, arcs and clothoids are supported horizontally; grades and parabolic curves vertically.

Can I place elements along the alignment?

Yes. Elements from DWG, DXF, 3DM or mesh files can be positioned by station and offset using IfcLinearPlacement — and the station and offsets are also written to a property set, so viewers that ignore placement attributes still show them.

Which IFC schema supports alignments?

IfcAlignment exists in IFC 4.3 (IFC4X3). IFCraft exports the Alignment-based View when linear placement is used, otherwise the Reference View.

My design software exports multiple alignments — are they all read?

Yes, each LandXML alignment becomes its own axis; you choose which ones to include in the export.
