DXF to IFC — convert DXF to IFC 4.3 online, free in your browser

To convert DXF to IFC, open IFCraft, drop in your .dxf file, map its layers to IFC classes and export. The result is a valid IFC file in the schema you pick — IFC4x3 (IFC 4.3) for infrastructure, or IFC4 / IFC2x3 for older toolchains. IFCraft works as a free DXF to IFC converter for AutoCAD and Civil 3D drawings; the whole conversion runs client-side — nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded to a server.

How to convert DXF to IFC step by step

  1. Open IFCraft and create a new project. Choose the target schema — IFC4x3 ADD2 for roads, railways and bridges, IFC4 or IFC2x3 for buildings and legacy software.
  2. Drop in the .dxf file. IFCraft reads its mesh geometry, 3D solids, layers, colors and ACAD groups, and detects drawing units.
  3. Build the element tree. Model the spatial structure (site, road, bridge, building…) and add element slots for your products.
  4. Map DXF layers to IFC classes. Each rule binds a layer to an element slot — one product per layer, one product per group, or one aggregated product.
  5. Enrich the model. Property sets, materials, classification (e.g. CCI), documents and georeferencing (S-JTSK / EPSG:5514 via IfcMapConversion).
  6. Export. One click produces the IFC file, written locally by your browser.

What DXF content is supported?

DXF contentSupport
Polyface meshes, MESH entitiesYes — converted to IFC tessellated geometry
Layers & colorsYes — layers drive the mapping rules; color by object or by layer
ACAD groupsYes — a group can become one product or a composite element
Drawing unitsDetected automatically, can be overridden
ACIS solids (3DSOLID)Yes — converted to meshes in the browser (planar, cylinders, spheres, tori, cones and NURBS incl. trimmed). Solids without stored ACIS data need meshing in CAD first
100% client-side. The DXF is parsed in your browser and the IFC is written in your browser. No upload, no account, no server-side processing.

FAQ

Do I need AutoCAD or Civil 3D installed?

No. IFCraft parses the DXF itself, directly in your browser — you can convert AutoCAD or Civil 3D DXF to IFC online without any CAD software installed.

Is the DXF uploaded to a server?

No. IFCraft parses the DXF and writes the IFC entirely in your browser; your data never leaves your computer.

My DXF contains 3D solids — will they import?

Yes. IFCraft converts 3DSOLID (ACIS) bodies to meshes directly in the browser. If a solid has no ACIS data stored in the file, convert it to a mesh in AutoCAD (_MESHSMOOTH) or bring the model as Rhino 3DM.

Can I reuse the mapping for the next drawing?

Yes. Save the project as an .ifcb.json convention and apply it to a new DXF — the tree, rules and libraries are reused.
